Venus #19 (EBAY)

I just noticed that someone is selling a Venus #19 on ebay, click HERE. As the item description claims, I too rarely ever see this one offered for sale here, or anywhere for that matter. It's practically a "holy grail" for Bill Everett collectors, definitely one of his best and most horrific covers of all time... I'm sure this Atlas classic will be well beyond my limited price range within just a few days, even in this lower grade.

SOLD FOR $350.00 with 27 bids!

Wow, that is one of the most disturbing pre code covers that I have seen, Everett had a real feel for the creeps. What is this series like?

I don't believe I've ever read anything from Venus, but I do like Everett's horror covers for the last half dozen or so issues from the series. The originals being so pricey it might be wise to look for cheaper story reprints, GCD has a few listed in Weird Wonder Tales, Marvel Spotlight, and Chamber of Chills.

I've read the 6 (or 7) stories from the horror issues of Venus that were reprinted in the bronze age titles (GCG doesn't have two of them listed: Weird Wonder Tales 18 and Tomb of Darkness 20).

You can get the lowdon on Venus from Wikipedia but she is basically a "good girl" heroine (no super powers) who fought some supernatural-type enemies (kind of a female version of Dr. Drew, Werewolf Hunter etc). She originally came from Venus but you'd never know it by reading many of the stories. It started as a romantic-heroine comic and had romantic elements even in the horror issues. It is a borderline case as to whether this is a horror comic.
