Voodoo Vol. 1 (NEWS)

Olympian Publishing has another volume from their “Chamber of Mystery” line coming out later this fall, featuring more selections of pre-code horror tale reprints and naming itself after Ajax / Farrell’s classic Voodoo series. Back in August I mentioned Olympian’s first collection of color horror reprints called Witchcraft (still available), and though I wish the story selection had been a little juicier it was still worth the fair price. Hopefully this volume of Voodoo will be better. 88pp, perfect bound, FC $13.99

wasn't all that impressed with the witchcraft collection either....the scanning and printing looked okay but aside from a couple really good stories like vampire puppet and hungry lodger it was a fairly tame representation of precode

$13 for 13 stories is still a good deal, even if the overall experience falls a bit short on the shivers… I mean where else are you going to read these stories without spending a fortune on the originals or in one of the not so spectacular black and white reprints? And while the contents of their version have been “sufficiently altered as to constitute a new copyright” (whatever), it is nice to see that a portion of Olympian Publishing sales of this book will be “donated to Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and ACTOR: A Commitment To Our Roots, in honor of the artists and publishers affected by the imposition of the Comics Code of 1954.”

I DONT THINK THE WITCHCRAFT COLECTION IS TOO BAD. ITS PRETTY TAME IN A HARMLESS SORT OF WAY BUT THERES DEFINITELY BETTER STORIES OUT THERE TO SHOWCASE IN SUCH A SLICK PACKAGE.

Welcome back Drazen, and thanks for the link! Love the new Happy Undertaker episode, any plans to collect these in a book? Surely there's some wise publisher out there who sees the potenial in this hot seller! Keep it up!

Also, I hope everyone isn't getting the wrong impression with these Olympian Pub horror releases, they are definitely worth getting... I just tend to think if you're going to go to all the trouble of collecting anything "ghastly" (and even say the word "ghastly" on the cover) then you better deliver me some "ghastly!" Hopefully Voodoo Vol. 1 will step up the ghast a bit more and really go for the throat. It doesn't have to be gratuitious, but please just chill my blood or prickle my neck hairs or something!

THanks for the encouragement!
, I had planned to collect them in book form next year but we'll see. Some of the originals
are quite large so it would be nice to have something
a little oversized.
Who knows when I have enough it done I might show it to some publishers.
Rue Morgue emailed me to say they were going to
give it a plug in the halloween issue which would be nice:-)

Keep me informed on whatever happens, I'll be plugging for you here as well!
